About David Young

Coach David Young

Why Use David for Coaching?

I have been coaching for numerous years to both business executives and individuals.  Where I differ from many Executive and Life Coaches is that I have qualifications to backup my practice.

The term “coach” is an unregulated term and therefore many well meaning people in this industry call themselves a “coach” without any training.

I differ because I am trained and fully qualified as a coach as recognised by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) governing body.  My training was the ICF’s higher level Accredited Coach Training Programme (ATCP) scheme facilitated through the prestigious Barefoot Coaching whose course is recognised by the University of Chester’s psychology department.

Why I do Executive Coaching?

I have always been passionate about helping people overcoming problems and achieving their best.

In business many people want to be a better leader, communicate better, manage their teams effectively and deliver the outstanding results all whilst making sure that their career is on track.  This is hard and people do not know where to start to work on their development and that is where I help with my Executive Coaching.

Why I do Life Coaching?

Again, I am passionate about helping others to become the best that they can be.

For individuals, I find that far too many people are either unsure, “lost” or suffering unnecessarily.  I find this extremely disturbing that in this world of plenty there is such sadness around.  I want to help relieve this suffering and through my own personal journey I have found the coaching is the most effective way to make this happen.

My Coaching Story

I am a full time Professional Executive and Life Coach and am totally dedicated to this profession.  In my past I had suffered with multiple counts of depression, anxiety, deep loneliness and more.  I would often be consumed by stress and caught in a circle of hopelessness and emotional emptiness.

Fortunately for me, I received professional therapy and also later coaching from a work colleague.  Both of these helped me become a better person which sparked my curiosity on human psychology.  At the time I was deeply unhappy and want to know more about why other people find happiness so easily.  I started reading books on positive psychology and became engrossed in the subject.

As I became happier,  I realised that so many other people are also suffering but this suffering is not necessary.  I needed to learn more and felt a great compulsion to help others.

I began ad-hoc coaching people in a rudimentary manner but realised I needed to become professional.

I then took professional qualifications in Business and Life Coaching. That was a great investment and am proud to say I now Coach people professionally.

I had got a promotion where now I was managing the whole department. I struggled with the people management side of the role, working with David I was able to understand how I could approach my team and company directors more effectively. I now have a lot more confidence in how to approach difficult situations, get things done and be taken more seriously.

I was apprehensive going to a life coach, I didn’t know if David could really help with depression. I had depression for about six months but working with David he helped me turn things around and helpped me see things more positively.  His insights on the mind is amazing and really helped me understand myself – thank you David!

At a time where my life seemed overwhelming, and facing difficulties with being able to implement goals I contacted David to help me gain a better understanding of myself and the barriers I had built up. At the time, I was very unhappy with my life, being constantly brought down by negative thought processes and finding it difficult to cope. David offered me exactly what I was after, the perspective to look at my situation differently. David is extremely personable and has the ability to connect with his clients quickly and to begin work with them at whatever stage they’re in at the time.

Every session was actionable, and he kept me accountable by assigning homework in which I had to complete various activities to give me a greater understanding of what my core needs were. One particularly impactful session, David provided me with a model which helped me identify unconscious messages I was telling myself which prevented me from completing tasks. This realisation was the fundamental turning point for me. After years of struggling with myself and not knowing why I was not achieving what I wanted to, in a matter of months David had helped me identify the root cause of my negative thoughts which was severely impacting every aspect of my life.

The sessions I had with David were the best thing I have done for myself in a long time. He helped me discover that everything I needed was already inside of me. He gave very little direct instruction and instead did a lot of listening, echoing and asking guided questions. From David I am on my way to ‘enjoying the journey and not just the destination’.
